Five prisoners flee from Bhilwara central jail

india Updated: Feb 11, 2007 14:44 IST

Five inmates of Bhilwara central jail have fled after removing rods and jumping over a high wall, a senior official said on Sunday.

Four undertrials and one life term inmate were found missing when a headcount was done this morning, the official said.

District Collector Ajitabh Sharma and the Superintendent of Jail rushed to the barracks to take stock of the situation.

A jail guard was suspended, he said adding those who escaped were Vinod Balai, Surendra Vaishnav, Sher Singh alias Sheria, Babulal, and V Bavari.

The check posts were alerted and searches launched to locate the prisoners, the official said.

There was no light inside the jail when the inmates made a successful attempt in the wee hours of today as the guards' shift got changed, the official suspected.
