Five assault rifles have gone missing from the armoury of the Bihar Military Police (BMP) in this district headquarter town three days after an AK-47 rifle and ammunition were stolen from a CRPF camp, police said on Sunday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Tirhut range) Gupteshwar Pandey said that four AK-47 rifles and a Insas rifle were missing from the armoury of the BMP's 6th battalion. Pandey is conducting an inquiry into the theft.

A case was registered with the Mithanpura police station in connection with the incident, he said.

An AK-47 assault rifle and 60 bullets had gone missing from a CRPF camp in Muzaffarpur on August 24. The weapon and ammunition were said to have been stolen from the camp in the BR Ambedkar Bihar University campus.
