Five terrorists killed in J&K encounters

Five terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in Baramulla and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

Four terrorists were killed in a gunbattle with security forces at Lachipora in Uri sector along the Line of Control on Thursday, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, SM Sahai told in Srinagar.

He said it was not immediately known whether terrorists were infiltrating into the valley or exfiltrating into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The identity and group of the affiliation of terrorists were being ascertained, he added.

A Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, a Pakistani national, was killed in another encounter at Chitragam in Shopian area of Pulwama district, a defence spokesman said.

Meanwhile, terrorists injured a civilian Abdul Majid Dar when he was coming out of a local mosque after offering prayers at Tulkhan-Bijbehara in Anantnag district on Wednesday night, official sources said.

Sources said terrorists also hurled a grenade at Chini Chowk in Anantnag district on Wednesday night causing injuries to two persons, including a policeman, who were hospitalised.

Terrorists hurled a grenade on a security patrol at Ramgarh in Baramulla district town on Wednesday night, but nobody was hurt in the incident, sources added.
