A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Jagadhari on Sunday. Sources said police had recovered her decomposed body from a gutter near Aanaj Mandi on Wednesday.
The victim's father Narinder Kumar, a migrant labourer hailing from Baligarh village of Chhattisgarh, had lodged a complaint on Tuesday that his daughter had gone missing from near his house following which the police had registered an FIR under Section 365 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentified persons.
Police officials said that after the recovery of the body, sections 302 (murder) and 201(destruction of evidence) of the IPC had been added.
They said that since the body was decomposed and it was impossible to conduct the post-mortem at Jagadhari, doctors had referred the case to MM Medical College at Mullana.
Dr OP Aggarwal, head of the board that conducted the post-mortem on Wednesday, informed HT that the child was naked. Confirming rape, he said that her private parts bore injury marks and she was strangulated to death on Sunday.
Officials who had come for the autopsy here said that in view of the report, the accused would also be booked under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC as well.
The police were investigating the case and the complainant had provided some leads, an official said, adding that the perpetrators who apparently were known to the victim have committed the crime after luring her.
The official said the family had been living in hutments near Aanaj Mandi and were eking out the living by doing odd jobs.
