A five year old girl was raped allegedly by the director of a private school who was arrested after infuriated residents staged widespread protests in village Sigda.

Outraged over the incident, villagers went on a rampage in school premises on Monday demanding immediate arrest of the alleged rapist.

Ravinder Kumar, the Director of Paramount School located in Sigda village in Mahendergarh district, 50 km from Rewari, was later arrested on charges of raping the girl in premises of the educational institution on Saturday, police said.

The girl, a student of Upper Kindergarten, was medically examined at the PGIMS, Rohtak, they said.

Ravinder, who was also subjected to medical examination, was produced on Tuesday in a court in Mahendergrah which remanded him in judicial custody, police said.

Earlier, the police registered a case of rape but did not name the accused which engraged the villagers who staged protests and manhandled Kumar.

Later, the villagers went to the Mahendergarh Sadar Police Station and met top police and district officials.

The agitated villagers left the police station after Ravinder was named as an accused in the case and arrested.
