india Updated: Dec 12, 2006 13:22 IST

A four-wheeler driver, trying to escape after an accident, dragged to death a man who was trying to get hold of him at Navin Nagar in Aishbagh area here on Monday.

According to Aishbag police, Ali Mohammed (42), of Navin Nagar, lodged a complaint, saying a silver Scorpio hit Wasimuddin (32), son of Ziauddin, and dragged him till he died. Mohammed said the Scorpio vehicle (number could not be noted) had earlier caused an accident near Hind Convent School and drove away.

Wasimuddin, a school bus driver, on seeing the driver fleeing, chased the vehicle with Mohammed. On reaching near the vehicle, Wasimuddin jumped and caught hold of the Scorpio’s panel, but the driver did not stop. The vehicle continued dragging Wasimuddin resulting in his death. The driver of the Scorpio succeeded in escaping with the vehicle.

The police registered a case against the unidentified driver under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The Aishbagh police said the driver earlier hit a school student of Hind Convent. However, the student, who had sustained minor injury, was discharged after the first-aid.
