Fleeing robbers open fire, injure one policeman

Two shooting incidents on Sunday have sent shockwaves among residents of the Millennium City.

The first incident was reported in the evening when a police constable, Tridev, was shot at near a police picket in Palam Vihar. The victim is posted at a police station in Rewari. He was taken to a hospital. His condition is stated to be stable.

The Rewari police had learnt about some robbers hiding in New Palam Vihar. A team of six policemen, led by SI Om Prakash, chased them. The incident took place when the robbers reached a police picket. Sensing that they were being followed by the police, they opened fire. The police retaliated, in which Tridev sustained a bullet injury in his shoulder, said Abhay Rao, DCP, west Gurgaon.

According to sources, the accused have been identified as Rajesh, Kale and Jittu. The fourth accused is at large. A reward of Rs 25,000 has been fixed on Rajesh's arrest. Rajesh and Jittu are residents of Gurgaon, while Kale and the other accused, who is yet to be identified, belong to Rewari.

Sources said one of the accused was also injured in the firing. He has been admitted to a hospital.

A case of firing at a police team and disturbing police work has been registered against the four accused at the Palam Vihar police station.

A car has also been recovered from the spot.

Another incident was reported in the afternoon from the Rajendra Park police station area, where a property dealer, Ajay Kumar, was shot at by five persons.

Police said Ajay, 25, had an argument with five persons, after which one of them shot at him. He was taken to a hospital. His condition is said to be stable. The police have registered a case against the accused, who are at large.
