Taxis in the city graduated to six-seater Innovas on Wednesday.
StarTaxi, the white-coloured fleet taxi service, will use its Malaysian expertise to ply on the city’s roads.
StarTaxi, which belongs to Mumbai Taxi Company Pvt. Ltd (MTCPL), is a special purpose vehicle floated by a joint venture between UAE-based ETA Group and city-based Khubchandani Group. ETA Group has 35 years of experience in operating fleet taxi services in 5 countries in the Middle East and Malaysia.
MTPCL unveiled its first batch of 50 CNG-propelled Toyota Innova vehicles, as a part of first phase. “We plan to operationalise the model in a phased manner where we will service only the airports and soon the entire city. We are looking at inducting about 1,000 taxis in a year in the first phase,” said Ankit Shah, executive director of MTCPL.
StarTaxi on-call services will allow users to just dial 42 111 111 to book a taxi in advance. Bookings can be done via the Internet and fax too. The limited fleet size, will initially allow StarTaxi to service only passengers who want to travel to either domestic or international airports, and book in advance.
The company has introduced SMS alert and call alert security systems in taxis where passengers can SMS the Taxi Id No. to StarTaxi’s call centre number. The call centre would track the taxi and driver and keep watch on GPS.
You can alert the call centre in case of a problem by pressing the panic buttons installed in the cabs. The company will then dispatch teams and an ambulance and inform the nearest police station.
