Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday emphasised on the expansion of internet banking facility for the common man.
Mukherjee was in the city to inaugurate the new corporate office of the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) in Sector 32.
About the Centre's efforts to support public sector banks, he said the government is taking all necessary steps to keep banks adequately capitalise in 2012-13.
In 2010-11, the government provided capital support to the tune of R20,157 crore to public sector banks, including the OBC, Mukherjee said.
The OBC, which had been operating from a rented building in Delhi, opened its new office on its 70th foundation day.
In the new premises, customers can get all the banking facilities such as ATM, deposit of cheques and drafts through machine, internet banking and coin dispensing under one roof.
The chief managing director of the bank, Nagesh Pydah, said that the OBC is the only public sector bank having its corporate office in Haryana.
Minister of state for finance Namo Narayan Meena, and chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda were also present.
