Forget spending a fortune on designer fragrances to lure your man. A recent study made headlines for discovering that the aroma of a number of familiar food aroused men the most. While this may come as a surprise to many as for far too long we all believed that of all the senses it is the sense of how a woman smells that attracts men the most. But all this can be proven wrong.
According to findings by the Chicago-based 'Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Centre', some of the most exhilarating scents that appeal to men are those of junk food! The findings said that the most sexually enticing scents include pumpkin pie, doughnuts, black licorice, buttered popcorn and cola. The smell of yummy food fare topped the list of what the men thought was most stimulating.
During the research, subjects were attached to a 'Plethysmograph', a machine that measures penile blood flow, and exposed to 30 odours. The research team found that all of the odours stimulated men at some level, but that the combined scent of pumpkin pie and lavender increased average blood flow by 40 per cent. An infusion of doughnuts and black licorice increased arousal by 31.5 per cent.
Dr Alan Hirsch, the centre’s director, said that the scent of vanilla triggered sexual desire among older men. Hirsch and his team explained that the odours of favourite foods could remind men of their sexual partners. Seems like ladies have got it all wrong though —Sephora.com’s current best-selling women's fragrances include Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue (with Bluebell, Granny Smith Apple, Jasmine Sambac, Bamboo, White Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, Musk) and Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf (Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia Rose, Cattleya Orchid, Ballerina Freesia, Patchouli).
