In the wake of increased VVIP movements in Chhattisgarh ahead of the two-phase assembly elections, the state police have chalked out precise plans to ensure fool-proof security for them.
The list of VVIPs to visit the state in the coming days include Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi, Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, top BJP leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Venkaiah Naidu. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is also slated to visit Raipur to address a rally on November 9.
“We are taking maximum care to follow various security measures when all VVIPs will be touring the state for election campaign. They are politically bigwigs and we know they also have threat. So our preparation remains thorough by deploying specialized forces and the additional officers positioned at the area will cautiously maintain enhanced supervisory”, the Chhattisgarh DGP Ram Niwas told Hindustan Times.
Not just the roads that the VVIPs follow will be sanitized, the vehicles used by the leaders would be under the high-security and protective features re-examined before put to use.
Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will move with the Special Protection Group (SPG) security cover. Modi will proceed with his usual inner security cordon and his team from Gujarat comprising of around 50 persons including officers, technical forces and expert bomb disposal squad (BDS) have arrived in Chhattisgarh. Sonia will address one rally in Bastar's Kondagaon while Modi would be speaking at three different places including Bastar's Kanker and Jagdalpur on Thursday.
The only concern of the state police is the Congress leaders (mother-son duo) on various occasions seen breaking the security cordon to reach out to the voters out of enthusiasm.
On various officials related to security reaching Chhattisgarh, the DGP said, “We appreciate this and that will help us. Chhattisgarh nevertheless will provide reinforcements. And SPG protection to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul will also be bonus for us as our position on the available resources remains tight owing to upcoming polls in the state. But ultimately the responsibility will remain ours and we are taking the utmost care”, Ram Niwas stated.
The district police chief will closely supervise the security related aspects of the VVIP movements in their respective areas. The helipads for choppers have been created as far as possible close to the venue from where the VVIPs would be addressing the election rallies. The VVIPs schedule would be hectic and none of them will stay for a day in the state, the spokespersons of the political parties told HT.
