The England squad may be gearing up for its all important encounter with Ecuador in the round of 16 in World Cup 2006, but their wives and girlfriends (WAGS) are leaving no stone unturned in having the time of their lives on the sidelines of this major sporting event.
Led by Wayne Rooney's girlfriend, Coleen McLouglin, the girls first had a sumptuous Italian meal at the Schloss Neuweier restaurant in a 12th century moated castle near Baden-Baden that included 1,000 pound vintage wines, and then headed for the Garibaldi Bar where they hit the roof with their rendition of "God save the Queen", danced on chairs and belted out football chants.
According to the Daily Mail, they also downed bottles of Moet champagne with strawberry syrup, glasses of vodka and Red Bull and shots of Sambucca as they sang "We're not going home, we're not going home" in celebration of England's qualification for the second round. One member of the girls' 20 strong group even smashed champagne flutes on a table.
When some customers in the bar started chanting "Rooney, Rooney", Coleen, his fiancee, laughed and joined in the singing.
Elen Rives stood on her seat as 30 customers sang a chant about her partner Frank Lampard. Michael Carrick's girlfriend Lisa Roughead and Stewart Downing's partner Michaela Henderson-Thynne danced on chairs with Gary Neville's father. They were serenaded by the rest of the bar with chants of "There's only one Michael Carrick" and "There's only one Stewart Downing".
"The girls had a great night. They were in celebratory mood because England are through and they know they are going to be here for a while," said an onlooker.
