A Spanish newspaper has branded the wives and girlfriends of the English soccer stars 'hooligans with visas'.
The publication, ABC lambasted Victoria Beckham, Alex Curran and the other WAGs only days after Spain were trounced 1-3 by the French at Hanover in the round of 16 at the FIFA 2006 World Cup.
The paper said: "Prudent Germany was prepared for the footballing avalanche and the most English of fans, but it had not predicted the champagne and shopping fury of the wives and girlfriends of the British team at their retreat in Baden-Baden.
"Not even the stores of Vuitton and Gucci can keep up with the daily attack of the hooligans with visas. The Moet & Chandon doesn't last the night since the team from Albion arrived at this aristocratic health resort. Led by Alex Curran, girlfriend of the midfielder Steve Gerrard, every night the WAGs convert elegant pubs into scenes from the Wild West. When the Moet runs out, the vodka and Red Bull takes over," the Daily Mail quoted the paper as saying.
The attack just before England takes on Portugal for Semi-Final berth at the World Cup further said: "Finally, the lines are divided between those who drink by night and those who shop by day, with Victoria Beckham indecisive between continuing to diet or buying some more big glasses".
"Victoria and Nancy Dell Olio, girlfriend of coach Eriksson, have been capable of getting through 80,000 Euros in an hour. Credit card at the ready, Cheryl Tweedy, the singer from Girls Aloud and girlfriend of Ashley Cole, has been united with Coleen McLoughlin, Wayne Rooney's girl, while the shops have abandoned all loyalty towards Germany and are praying that the British reach the final," it further said.
