The Mumbai police are planning to record the statements of foreign tourists who witnessed the 26/11 attacks through emails. This is the first such effort by the police.

Most of the tourists who were rescued from the Taj and Trident hotels returned home soon after.

The police have obtained details such as addresses and telephone numbers of about 15 foreign tourists from the registers at both hotels.

“We are going to request all of them, through their respective consulates in Mumbai, to file their statements as witnesses. If they fail to come over in person or are no longer in the country, we will record their statements via e-mail or even over the telephone,” sources said.

The police are hoping the statements will boost their case against Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only terrorist captured alive by the Mumbai police.
