The Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina have given top priority to the DNA tests of actor Shiney Ahuja and the results will be out soon.

Ahuja, who is at Arthur Road jail, has been accused of allegedly raping his maid, when there was no one at his home in Oshiwara on June 14.

“The tests are being done on a priority basis,” said Dr M.V. Garad, director, Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory.

“The DNA and other forensic tests will be completed by Friday or Saturday and the report will be sent to the police.”

The officials added that forensic tests report including that of DNA is important from the prosecution point of view, in making the case tighter.

According to laboratory officials, Ahuja’s case is being taken up on a priority basis because of the attention it has attracted.

The media has also played up the issue so much because a celebrity is involved, said a laboratory official, on condition of anonymity for lack of authorisation to speak to the media.

“However, the promise made by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan to put the case on a fast-track made it even more important,” the official added.

The police said the medical reports confirmed rape and some of the exhibits were sent to the laboratory for tests.

Medical reports of Ahuja show abrasions on the actor’s hand. However, the police are yet to confirm whether the abrasion was from the incident being investigated.

The blood and urine tests done at the laboratory have come negative and its reports were submitted to the police on Monday.
