A foreign exchange agency was duped for Rs 2.3 lakh on Thursday by a customer who fled after making part payment against $5,000 collected from the company. Vinay Chauhan, an employee of Sanatan Forex Pvt. Ltd, received a telephonic request for $5,000 and 500 euros to be delivered to an address in Sector 39, near Subhash Chowk.
He sent an executive to deliver the foreign exchange against cash payment.
When the executive reached the house, a woman first denied placing any order for foreign exchange, but then, a man called out to the agent and asked him to come to the first floor.
The executive handed over $5,000, inadvertently missing out on delivering the euros, and asked for the payment.
However, the accused gave him only Rs 50,000 and asked him to wait while he got the balance payment of Rs 2.3 lakh.
After waiting for a few minutes, the executive came out and asked the woman about ‘her son’. However, she claimed it was a guest house and she did not know the man. The executive was shocked and realised he had been tricked.
The duped staffer then informed his company and filed a complaint at the Sadar police station.
Inspector Yashwant Singh, station house officer (SHO), Sadar police station, said, “The woman who runs the guest house did not take any ID proof and has no details of the customer. We are proceeding with investigations.”
