Senior Congress leader Karan Singh’s politician son Ajatshatru Singh on Sunday joined the BJP, bolstering its prospects for the assembly elections beginning November 25. Singh is National Conference member in the legislative council and a former minister.
“I want to assure that till our mission is complete, we will not sleep peacefully. In Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh, our effort will be to bring a new government. The way Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants new thinking to come, it should also come in Jammu and Kashmir,” Singh told reporters.
Union minister Jitendra Singh, MP from Udhampur, said Singh has given up the seat to join BJP.
"In the forthcoming Jammu and Kashmir polls not only the party will be strengthened, but, in a way it is evidence of the trend as to which direction the people of the state are moving,” BJP president Amit Shah said.
Singh remain tight-lipped on contesting the next poll and said it was up to the party to take a call on that. Asked whether Article 370 will be raised, he said that it will also depend on the party and one would get to know once the election manifesto comes.
