Highlight Story

A DISMISSED police constable allegedly orchestrated the kidnapping of Ankit, son of a SGPGIMS employee, along with aides of slain criminal Ramesh Kalia here on Friday evening. The cops got the clue during an interrogation of a person, Suresh, who was detained in connection with the kidnapping. After this, the cops interrogated several dismissed constables to dig out some information regarding accused ex-cop from them.

Ankit, (13), a class VIII student of Central School, SGPGI, and son of RK Vishwakarma, a technician at SGPGI, was kidnapped soon after he left his Eldeco Colony residence along with two teenagers on a motorcycle on Friday evening. Ankit’s family members received five anonymous calls on the landline phone demanding ransom of Rs 5 lakh soon after the boy was reported missing.

Interestingly, no calls were received after a call identification device was installed. This has led the cops to believe that someone close to the family might also be involved in the incident. The police said that the dismissed constable and Ramesh Kalia’s men used to visit the same ground in the South City area, where Ankit used to play cricket. After the kidnapping, Kalia’s men and the dismissed constable have not been seen on the ground.

The cops also interrogated a PCO owner, from where the kidnappers had made ransom calls before the installation of a call identification device. Superintendent of police (rural) Rajeev Malhotra said that one of Ankit’s kidnappers was a person called Vishal. It was Vishal, who had called Ankit out on Friday evening. Ankit has been missing since then.
