The police arrested a former notary from Kandivli on Wednesday for allegedly cheating people for four months.

Nandlal Dave (50) had an office at MG Road in Kandivli (W). He lost his notary license last October, but continued cheating people who came to him for court stamps on agreements, the police said.

Senior Police Inspector Surendrakumar Jaiswal said Dave had been involved in giving out court stamps to fraudsters, so the government cancelled his licence.

Mukesh Cheda, a businessman approached the police and gave them the information about his practice. On the tip off, the Kandivli police sent a customer to Dave’s office on Wednesday for a court stamp.

“The moment Dave gave his stamp for Rs 200 we arrested him under section 420 of Indian Penal Code for cheating. He will be produced in court on Thursday,” added Jaiswal. According to Jaiswal, Dave was an advocate in the high court.
