Former Pondy CM condoles death of Venkataraman

Former Puducherry Chief Minister P Shanmugham on Wednesday condoled the death of former President R Venkataraman.

In his message, Shanmugham said Venkataraman was a dedicated Congressman, devout patriot and an unblemished leader who guided the destiny of the nation during critical times.

Shanmugham, who had close contact and rapport with Venkataraman, told PTI that Venkataraman had distinguished himself in all capacities and during his tenure as Central Minister, Vice-President and President, he worked for the development of the country. His contributions to the development of Puducherry was historic as he had special concern for the region.

Shanmugham said during his tenure as MP, he had close contact with Venkataraman in Lok Sabha and had the privilege of evolving developmental programmes for Puducherry.

"His death is a great loss to the nation," the Congress leader said, adding that he had paid his homage at a condolence meeting at his residence in Neduncadu near Karaikal on Wednesday.

He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members.
