Independent media entrepreneur and former Star CEO Sameer Nair on Friday joined the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to support its Delhi election campaign.

“Sameer Nair joins AAP. Helping us with our communications. Thanks so much Sameer ji,” Kejriwal tweeted.

“Thank you Arvind ji, it's an honour to be a small part of history in the making. And happy to help in every possible way,” Nair tweeted back.

A known name in creative field and media production, 48-year-old Nair was the CEO of STAR TV before he joined the launch team of NDTV Imagine as the CEO.

Nair was an avid follower of Janlokpal agitation under the India Against Corruption campaign led by veteran anti-graft activist Anna Hazare. He has also been following AAP since its launch and wanted to contribute to the change that AAP claims to have been trying to bring about in Indian politics.

“Even though his family and business are based from Mumbai, he has recently been making frequent trips to Delhi to support and contribute in AAP's communication strategy,” said an AAP statement.

“Like many media professionals in Mumbai, I am also a supporter of Janlokpal and now AAP. I am here to offer my expertise to AAP in whatever way possible to bring the change in our society. In fact, a lot of my friends are ready to contribute in AAP’s communication work free of cost,” Nair said.

“Being a Mumbai resident, I can’t vote in Delhi elections but has been asking all my friends, relatives and acquaintances in the national capital to vote for AAP,” he added.

Welcoming Nair into the party fold, Kejriwal said, “Nair’s support is the latest in the line of many a volunteers that have left their jobs, some in India and some abroad. While some are working as full time volunteers for AAP, many like Nair are supporting in whatever possible way they can.”
