A former student leader of Lucknow University was arrested for allegedly trying to grab a piece of land at a posh locality here, police said.

Former Lucknow University students' Union president, Shailesh Kumar Singh, was arrested yesterday after a man lodged a complain alleging that Singh was staking claim on his land in the Nawabpurwa area of Gomti Nagar, they said.

The complainant, a resident of Gorakhpur, alleged that Singh had made forged papers and was trying to grab his plot that he purchased about five years ago, they said.

The accused had contested the last mayoral election from Lucknow and has been associated with two political parties in the past, they added.
