Four members of the Chhota Shakeel gang, who were allegedly planning to kill two lawyers, have been arrested by the city police, a top crime branch official said on Friday.
The shooters had planned to kill the lawyers for representing people suspected to be working against the Shakeel gang, Joint Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said.
The accused identified as Mohammed Aslam Ghachi alias doctor (44), Kamil Anwar Ibzi alias John (24), Shahid Mohammed Ali Fakee alias Babu (26) and Arvindkumar Pathak alias Panditji (26) were nabbed from south Mumbai on July 3, Maria said.
Police seized two pistols, 13 live cartridges, two knifes, six mobile phones. A motorbike was also recovered from them, he said.
Shakeel is a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
On June 4, Delhi police arrested six alleged sharp shooters of Shakeel gang and claimed they were planning to eliminate the lawyer of BJP MP Varun Gandhi, who has been accused of making anti-Muslim speeches.
Earlier in May, Mumbai police had also arrested seven alleged members of Shakeel gang, including two sharp shooters -- Gurpreet Singh and Rashid Malbari.
