Four feared drowned in Orissa boat capsize

At least four persons were feared drowned as two mechanised boats capsized after colliding with each other midstream in the river Kharasrota in Orissa's Jajpur district.

At least four persons were feared drowned today as two mechanised boats capsized after colliding with each other midstream in the river Kharasrota in Orissa's Jajpur district.

The police said the incident took place this afternoon when around 20 residents of Siripur were travelling in two boats. They were going to attend a feast at Banpur village located on the other side of the river.

DSP Jajpur Debendra Samal said while six persons had swam to safety, four others were still missing.

Nearely 20 people were ferrying in two boats, he said.

However, no body was recovered.

Police and fire brigade personnel have launched an operation to trace the missing persons.
