A consignment of explosives weighing more than 75 kg was seized in Yavatmal in eastern Maharashtra and four persons were arrested.
A patrolling team intercepted the car in which three persons were travelling in the wee hours of Thursday near village Dhanki in Umarkhed taluka, the police said.
“They gave evasive replies to our questions. We then inspected their car and found gelatin sticks weighing more than 75kg and 600 detonators,” sub-inspector Gnyanoba Deokate of Umarkhed police station said.
“We have arrested them and seized the consignment with the car,” he said, adding that an explosives dealer was arrested later. The arrested have been identified as Ganesh Rajurkar, 21, Jitendra Gadge, 21, Kiran Lohate, 25, and explosives dealer Baliram Nakhade, 30.
The consignment belonged to Nakhade and the police are verifying the genuineness of the licence to sell explosives produced by him.
