Four employees of Pune Municipal Corporation who were on an excursion trip to Kullu-Manali were killed while 43 others injured when the bus carrying them fell into a gorge near Doby on Kullu-Manali road on Friday, authorities said.

"The bus returning from Manali to Chandigarh fell into about 50 feet deep gorge near Doby, about 20 km from Manali, killing four persons on the spot and injuring 43 others," Deputy Commissioner Kullu M Sudha Devi said.

One of the injured who was critical has been rushed to Chandigarh while the rest of them have been admitted to Kullu regional hospital, she said.

The bus was carrying 51 persons including employees of Pune Municipal Corporation who had come here on a picnic, the Kullu DC said after visiting the accident site.

The dead have been identified as Anil Kohli, Joshi Sharma and Ankush Rana. The identity of the fourth victim, however, has not yet been ascertained, police sources said.

Prima facie it appeared that the accident was caused by the negligence of the driver of the bus, they said.

A case has been registered in this connection at Manali police station under various sections of IPC, the sources added.
