While searching the area, the security personnel spotted some persons moving in a suspicious manner, the sources said.

An encounter followed in which three militants were killed, the sources said.

Two 9mm pistols, eight live rounds and a grenade were recovered from the spot, the sources said.

In the second incident last night, police commandos gunned down an unidentified militant at Awang Leikinthabi area in Imphal West district, the sources said.

One grenade was recovered from the spot.

In a separate incident, a self-styled ' sergeant major' of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) identified as T.Bobo (22) was shot by three gunmen who reportedly belonged to a rival faction at Ithai area in Bishenpur district yesterday, the sources said.
