Four inmates of the Rajkiya Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel were injured when a portion of the roof fell on them on Sunday morning. The hostel comes under Patna University
and is located near the malaria office in Sultanganj area of Patna City. Two seriously injured students have been admitted to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) while two others were released after first aid.

According to the inmates, the incident occurred at around 5.30 am when four students — Vikas Paswan, a BA part II student of Patna College, Randhir Paswan of BSc part I, Science College, Shakti Paswan, a PG student of Darbhanga House and Satat Paswan of BA part II of Patna College were asleep in room number 1.

"We were frightened when we heard the sound of the collapsing roof. The roof collapsed due to the heavy downpour. Shakti immediately woke up when he heard the noise of the collapsing roof and tried to protect other inmates but it was too late, he also was injured in the incident," they added.

On hearing screams, all the hostel inmates came out of their rooms and alerted others. They said, "We informed the officers concerned as well as the SDO, Patna City, Raman Kumar Sinha. They reached the spot at around 11 am and called the engineer".

"Officers told me that it would take time to repair the roof of the hostel building. The room number 2 is also in a dilapidated condition," said a police officer.

Students said, "About 150 inmates share space in just 19 rooms". "Vikas and Shakti were released after first aid. Almost all the rooms are in a bad shape and need immediate repair. We are at god's mercy," said an inmate of the hostel.

Former union minister Ram Vilas Paswan later visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured students.
