Amid unprecedented security arrangements, 1987448 voters would utilise their franchise on Monday in the fourth phase of assembly elections to decide the fate of 101 candidates contesting for seven assembly seats in the district. These include Mohammadi (reserve), Hyderabad, Paila (reserve), Lakhimpur, Srinagar, Nighasan and Dhaurehra.

Among the seven constituencies, maximum 22 contestants are in the fray in Srinagar followed by 21 in Nighasan, 14 each in Hyderabad, Paila and Lakhimpur, nine in Dhaurehra and a minimum seven contestants in Mohammadi constituency.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair elections on Monday. Apart from UP Police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), central paramilitary forces in a large number have been deployed to avert any untoward incident. According to district election office officials, a total of 2029 polling centres have been set up across the district to conduct smooth polling. Among these, 220 polling centres are sensitive and 155 hyper-sensitive.

On Saturday, chief election officer (CEO) of UP held meetings with the district authorities. He instructed all officials to conduct the polls fairly and impartially abiding by the directives of the Election Commission.
