Parvati Majhi, mother of junior engineer Pabitra Majhi on Wednesday expressed relief at the release of her son and urged the Maoists to free Malkangiri district Collector R V Krishna without further delay.

Thanking the Maoists for releasing her son, Parvati Majhi told reporters, "The Collector babu is also like my son. I am a mother and I know the agony of the family when a child remains abducted".

Asking Maoists to return to the mainstream, she appealed to the rebels to abjure abduction and the path of violence. "I want that Maoists should mingle with other people and shun violence," she said.

Narrating her nearly week-long ordeal after Majhi reached Chitrakonda following his release in a forest area, 50-year-old Parvati told reporters at her house that she could neither sleep nor eat ever since she came to know about the abduction of her son and the Collector on February 16.

"I was praying to God all along for the safe release of my son and the Collector babu," Parvati said adding that she wanted to have a talk with Pabitra.

"I am also worried about my son's health ... he spent so many days inside dense forest. I am eager to meet him as soon as possible," she said.

The mother also requested the district administration of Malkangiri though media to make arrangements for her to speak to Pabitra.

Parvati confirmed that the person released by Maoists was her son after seeing the video footage.

Majhi's return was also officially confirmed by Home Secretary U N Behera.
