A fresh batch of 2269 pilgrims on Tuesday left Jammu for the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas despite inclement weather.

The batch, including 493 women and 105 children, left from the base camp of MAM stadium in Jammu early on Tuesday morning in a fleet of 71 vehicles under tight security, officials said.

The pilgrims were allowed to proceed towards Baltal and Pahalgam routes though it has been raining in some places along Jammu-Srinagar highway, they said.

The pilgrims are expected to reach their respective destinations at Pahalgam and Baltal by this evening. They would be undertaking the yatra to the shrine on foot on Wednesday after night halt, the officials said.

With today's batch, a total of over 33,300 pilgrims have left from the base camp of MAM stadium in Jammu to the cave shrine since the commencement of the pilgrimage on June 10.
