Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir experienced fresh light snowfall while the upper reaches in the Kashmir Valley recorded moderate to heavy snowfall since last evening.
A Met department spokesman said that a fresh western disturbance is developing over the state and is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas from on Saturday afternoon till tomorrow afternoon.
He said due to this weather system, moderate snowfall over hills while rains in plains will occur at most places of Pirpanjal ranges in Kashmir division and at many places over higher reaches of Jammu region.
Some places of Pirpanjal range, including the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, may receive heavy snowfall during these days.
He said during the above period day temperature will fall by 4 to 5 degrees celsius and night temperature will rise by 1 to 2 degree celsius.
Tree tops, house roofs, electric polls and open fields had turned white because of fresh snowfall early this morning as the people woke up today.
However, the minimum temperature has witnessed improvement.
The upper reaches including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Khilangmarg,Sheehnag, Amarnath cave and Sonamarg experienced moderate to heavy snowfall.
