Actor, fashion designer, ex-bureaucrat, former cop, former wrestler. These are not characters from some prime time television show but are actually on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s list of office bearers of its state working committee.
The list, which was released on Friday, has an interesting mix of people. So while former cop YC Pawar and wrestler Sambhajirao Pawar have been named vice presidents, television actor Smriti Irani has been named secretary. Ganesh Hake who served as personal secretary to several ministers and fashion designer Shaina NC have been appointed as regional spokespersons.
Hake said that this diverse mix of people would benefit the party and bring more value addition. “But these people have not been selected because of their profession. It is because they have been working for the party and are in the public sphere,” he explained.
“I think this will bring in a lot of new blood and young inputs,” Shaina, who at 33 is the youngest on the team, said. “It’s great that the party has given us the opportunity to be its voice. We won’t let the party down.”
YC Pawar, who was responsible for wiping out Dharavi don Vardarajan Mudaliar’s gang, hoped the new team would fare well. “I will try to implement my principles in life through the party,” he said.
