Hearing of a designer collaborating with a major brand is always exciting. Though if that name is Manish Arora, then it's probably more of a habit. After more joint ventures than one cares to count, Manish Arora has bagged himself another major brand- automobiles giant Mercedes Benz. If you're wondering what the premium car label and India's madcap designer have in common, it might do you well to remember that Mercedes Benz hosts New York Fashion Week, so they're no strangers to the whirlwind world of fashion.
"Their new concept is fascination," explains Arora, "And they felt that I would be perfect for this. They didn't even ask me to match their vision, they were already sure I would fit in." Arora's reasoning behind his unmatched corporate success is simple- originality. "I'm original," he explains. "Also, these brand associations help me to reach out to more people than I would be able to ordinarily."
While juggling so many brands might be stressful to some, Arora admits it's become more of a habit now. "I'd like to think of myself as a designer who understands luxury and ready-to-wear just as well. But of course, I prefer the luxury segment."
The collection seems to draw inspiration from Arora's own line- Swarovski-bedecked animal shapes share space with flouncy dresses with appliqué work. If you're worried about your Mercedes not being able to stand-out enough, an outfit from this collection will definitely change that.
Though it's better not to mix Arora's designs and driving. The collection will soon be sold at Manish Arora outlets around the country and in Mercedes Benz showrooms.
