What is the physical ideal of the DU fuchcha? Going by the requests to makeover experts, it is a combo of Kareena’s body, Priyanka Chopra’s sleek locks and Nicole Kidman’s nose.
Along with queuing for admission forms, girls on the threshold of college life are making a beeline for experts who can turn them from gawky school kids with baby fat to well-groomed slender young women almost overnight.
Dr Veena Aggarwal, head of R&D and technical services at VLCC, says, “Kareena’s size zero has made girls very conscious of their bodies. Figure correction and losing weight from specific parts of their body is one of the most popular choices at the moment.” In their 16 centres across Delhi and NCR, the number of 17- to 18-year-olds coming for figure correction is about 130 out of a total of 2,000 clients, she adds.
Banking on this rush, many beauty clinics offer small courses for a complete transformation. Kamna Parashar, MD, Cure and Curves, says, “We see a 40 per cent rise in youngsters who want body contouring (thighs and butt, especially). Students also take the 7-day or 15-day bridal packages, working on hair, skin and figure maintenance.”
Some intrepid souls go under the knife before college starts! “Nose jobs, liposuction, reduction of male breasts and breast enhancement are very popular,” says Dr Anup Dhir, cosmetic surgeon at Apollo Hospitals. A nose job can cost between Rs 20,000 and Rs 80,000. Breast enhancement costs over Rs 1 lakh.
When it comes to hair, Priyanka is the students’ role model, says beauty expert Samantha Kochhar, while “guys want shaggy hair with lots of layers”.
