We all have that one piece of accessory in our wardrobe that makes even a boring dress stand out. It could be a multi-coloured scarf, a funky hair band, or a chunky neckpiece that adds drama to an otherwise dull dress. The same rule applies to furniture. Simple additions can turn the interiors of your house from boring to funky, and that too without causing a big dent on the pocket.

DecorStatement furniture is a trend that is a hit globally and is picking up in India too. "In India, people are getting interested in statement furniture. That one funky piece gives new life to the room, and can be done with a small budget. In fact, it’s the best way to add colour to your room," says Dimple Kohli, interior designer and owner of Qboid Design House.

Furniture pieces like an exotic red sofa, a truck tyre table, Japanese kimono inspired rocking chair, a neon lamp or brightly-coloured cushions, are sure to pep up your room. But, do remember not to over do. One or two pieces are all it takes to add the required drama. “A funky piece can do a lot for overall setting. But if you add too many statement pieces, it’ll clutter the room. The look will be confusing and won’t please the eyes. One statement piece amid straightline furniture is the ideal way to go,” says Manju Sara Rajan, editor, Architectural Digest magazine. We list a few options that are sure to liven up your room.
