Farmers of villages along the Yamuna Expressway on Sunday decided to support the country’s maiden Formula One Grand Prix to be held next month here.
In a meeting at Mehmoodpur village on Sunday, they said they wanted the sports event to go on as per schedule as it was a matter of pride not only for the city, but for the country. They said they would continue talks with the authority over the acquisition of their land.
“Farmers have decided that they will not obstruct the Formula One race. Hosting such an event is a matter of pride not only for the city, but for the country,” said Bharatiya Kisan Union president Ajay Pal Sharma.
Mohinder Singh, chairman, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has requested farmers to hold discussions instead of agitating. "He has invited farmers to discuss their demands on September 15," Sharma said.
“If YEIDA officers do not resolve our issues, farmers will be forced to obstruct the race.”
