Gadaria double-crossed by gang member?

THE RUMOUR mill is working overtime ever since the reported encounter between the police and bandit Rambabu Gadaria gang on Wednesday near Aba-Kho jungles under Belgadha police station of district Gwalior.

Police sources claimed Gadaria was double-crossed by a gang member — Rambabu’s brother-in-law may have poisoned him under police pressure. Fearing that the post-mortem report and body condition would deprive the police of claiming the reward on the dacoit, the police removed the body, the sources added.

The police, however, denied this version and insisted that they have shot and injured Rambabu.  But an injured bandit dodging the police raises doubts.

On Wednesday IG Sarabjeet Singh said, “We are confident that Rambabu was injured during the encounter with the police team on January 3.

Extensive combing was being carried out in Harsi jungles with the help of sniffer dogs. We have gathered more information about other members of the gang and would nab them soon”.

The police recovered a SLR and two .303-bore rifles from the spot of encounter. The Gadaria gang had snatched the rifles when it escaped from police custody in March 2001.
