The four policemen, who were seriously injured in a Maoist attack in Gadchiroli district two days ago and brought in Nagpur for treatment, were out of danger, police said on Saturday.

Umesh Alam, Munshi Madavi, Rajendra Sayam and Lalu Raju, who had received bullet injuries and were admitted in a private hospital in Nagpur, are out of danger and recovering fast, they said.

Seventeen policemen, including Sub-Inspector Chandrashekhar Deshmukh, were killed in an ambush by Naxals in Bhamragargh taluka of the bordering district on Thursday.

Meanwhile, police said the combing operation in the area was continuing. Police suspects that about 15 Naxalites might have been killed in the exchange of fire but so far no body has been found, they said.

District administration has stepped up security in view of October 13 Assembly elections and Central para-military personnel have been deployed in the Naxal-infested areas.
