india Updated: Sep 04, 2009 01:28 IST

Amid chanting of "Ganapati Bappa Morriya" over 2000 Ganesh idols were immersed till 8 pm in Hussainsagar lake on the 11th day of Ganesh festival in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Centralised Ganesh immersion procession which started in the noon in old city, will continue till Friday morning as over 13,000 idols of different sizes have been installed in the city.

The sudden demise of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy in a chopper crash, cast its shadow on the Ganesh immersion procession this year.

In view of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi's appeal not to use loud speakers and drums following death of YS Rajasekhar Reddy, the final day of Ganesh immersion was on a subdued note.

The city police had made elaborate security arrangements with deployment of over 26,000 security personnel for smooth and peaceful conduct of the procession. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has made all arrangements for immersion of Ganesh idols.
