Ganguly in, Sehwag shown the door
Sachin Tendulkar is Rahul Dravid's deputy, reports G Krishnan. Your take?india Updated: Jan 13, 2007 22:15 IST
Exit Virender Sehwag, enter Sourav Ganguly. A year ago when Ganguly was dropped from the Indian team, Sehwag was king of all he surveyed. A year on, Sehwag finds himself out of the side that will take on the West Indies in the first two one-dayers, while Ganguly, after his strong comeback in the Test series in South Africa, has returned to the one-day team.
But the most curious selection is that of Sachin Tendulkar as vice-captain. What it means in the long run is not clear. Will the out-of-form Tendulkar be back as Indian captain after the World Cup?
There were some blunt comments from the chairman of the selection committee, Dilip Vengsarkar, about Sehwag. “He has to return to the nets and sort out his cricket,”' Vengsarkar said. But Sehwag is not out of contention for the World Cup. Along with Irfan Pathan, he figures in the list of 30 probables announced for the event. Like Sehwag, Pathan too failed to make the 15 against the West Indies. Vengsarkar said he had to bowl a lot more and take a lot more wickets.
