To ensure the industrial township of Faridabad looks neat and clean, the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) is introducing door-to-door lifting of household waste. The civic body plans to start the service by the last week of this month.
Residents will however have to pay for this service - ranging from Rs 1 per day per family to Rs 50,000 per month in case of big shopping malls.
The civic agency recently entered into an agreement with a private company dealing with solid waste management. The deal is to collect garbage from houses and the transport it to the solid waste management plant at Bandhwari on Faridabad-Gurgaon road, about 15 km from here.
"The MCF has entered into an agreement with Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited for door-to-door lifting of household waste in Faridabad," said Anil Mehta, executive engineer, MCF. Mehta is associated with the JNNURM project in Faridabad.
The collection of garbage will start from New Industrial Township (NIT) area in Faridabad.
"The company will start collecting household waste from door-to-door within a fortnight," Mehta said, adding, "the vehicles used for transportation of household waste to Bandhwari solid waste management plant will be fitted with GPS."
He said the civic agency will pay Rs 525 per metric tonne of household waste to the company. "The quantity of household waste will be measured at the waste management plant," he said. Officials said charges for BPL families may be around Rs 10 per month, though it is not fixed yet.
