Leader of opposition in Puducherry Assembly AMH Nazeem has alleged that reduction in gas supply to the power plant owned by Puducherry Power Corporation Limited at TR Pattinam has led to power cuts in Karaikal.

Of the 80 MW needed by Karaikal, 50 MW is being procured from Tamil Nadu while 30 MW is supplied by PPCL, he said.

"PPCL gets gas from various oil wells in nearby districts for power production. Gas supply to PPCL has now been reduced by over 30 per cent, leading to shortfall in power production. PPCL now produces only 18 MW against the usual 30 MW, leading to power cuts," said Nazeem.

He said he had taken it up with Union Minister of State for Planning V Narayanaswamy and Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam and hoped gas supply would soon be enhanced.
