LOCAL MLA Umashankar Gupta was conspicuous by his absence in the two programmes organised in his constituency – the inauguration of newly developed weekly haat at Bittan Market and foundation stone-laying for a market at Kotra under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Commerce and Industry Minister Babulal Gaur was also not present in both.
Political observers are linking Gupta and Gaur’s absence with the internal politics of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gupta had recently written a letter to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan demanding an inquiry into the alleged intervention of his (CM’s) wife Sadhana Singh when the BMC team reached to inspect a hospital building. However, Sadhana Singh was present in the hospital for the treatment of a family member.
Gupta is also considered close to Gaur, who is not on good terms with the Chief Minister these days. Besides, newly appointed district president of BJP, Alok Sanjar, also got this post due to support from Chouhan-supported group. Gupta and Gaur were favouring other leaders for this post.
It is believed that Gupta was also angry because his name was not mentioned in the invitation cards printed on behalf of the Capital Project Area (CPA) administrator for the programme at Bittan Market.
