Manvendrasinh Gohil, who has declared himself as a gay, has welcomed the news that Centre is considering repealing a controversial section of the penal law which criminalises homosexuality.

“It’s a very positive and encouraging initiative taken by the Central Government. I really appreciate the fact that the Home Ministry convened a meeting in this regard,” he said, adding “I am hopeful about a positive outcome and justice to us”.

“It’s been a long pending demand of our community that the particular section (IPC Sec 377) should be scrapped and homosexuality should be decriminalised,” he told PTI.

Gohil, prince of erstwhile Rajpipla royal family, is a known activist of the gay community in the country and has represented the community at several international fora.

He and his colleagues are working for the prevention of HIV AIDS, gay rights and organic farming in Rajpipla, in South Gujarat.
