Gayle, Kallis will add intensity

What was disappointing about Wednesday's loss was the fact that we did a lot of things right but did not bat to potential. We have a deep batting order, but on the day it was not able to deliver. The turning point for me was not the dismissal of Yusuf Pathan, but in many ways, the run-out of Eoin Morgan.
The latter was stitching together a very good partnership with Manoj Tiwary when that happened, and had they batted for another four overs, we would have sealed the match. It is important that we improve in areas such as running between wickets.Yusuf was a little hampered after jarring his knee while taking a catch and that did not help our cause. The good news is that he is now on the mend and will be up and ready for Friday's match. Yusuf is a very important member of this team and we hope he will explode in the coming games.
Test of character
Friday's game will be a test of KKR's character. I had mentioned in one of my columns how difficult it is to regain momentum. So, it's important we don't allow one loss to become two or three. We had a good session at the nets on Thursday and we know that the opposition, Bangalore, will come hard at us. We need to bring out our 'A' game, because the visitors have three losses behind them and would be desperate for a win.
RCB have Gayle force
They have reinforced their batting with former Knight Rider, Chris Gayle. It's interesting to note that when the two teams met last year, Jacques Kallis opened for RCB and Gayle opened for KKR. This will add a little intensity to the combat when these senior pros take the field against us on Friday.
Wednesday's game showed everybody that no team is stronger or weaker than the opposition. Kochi Tuskers were underdogs after two losses, but they have bounced back with three straight wins.
We should have won
They put in a good team effort and it was an all-round performance with no single star-turn that got them across the line. That said, it was a game we should have won. I still don't have any problem with the pitch because it was fair to both teams. And anyway, how much can a wicket deteriorate in 40 overs. However, heat could be a problem on Friday as we have an afternoon start.
