The recent statements issued by the European Union and the International Commission of Jurists on the politically-motivated arrests and unfair trials in Maldives have had no effect on President Abdul Gayoom, according to a report in Minivan News.
Instead the President has accused the EU of intervening in their internal affairs and taking the Opposition propaganda at face value.
The EU and the UN were highly critical of the President in May, following a mass crack-down on opposition protestors.
But the government has dismissed all international censure and instead pressed ahead with charging demonstrators in grossly unfair trials, the Minivan News reported.
