A 46-year-old German national residing in Mcleodganj for the past 10 months was allegedly raped by two Tibetan youth on December 27.
The woman, who had come to India on a tourist visa in March last year from Duisburg, lodged the complaint after she was discharged from Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda, on her recovery from a drug overdose.
In her complaint, the woman, staying with local resident Naresh for the past six months, alleged that a Tibetan youth came to her house on December 27 claiming that Naresh needed her help as he was caught in some problem. The youth allegedly took her to an isolated room, where his friend was already waiting. She alleged both of them sexually assaulted her and released her on December 28 evening.
The police on Saturday registered a case under Sections 376 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. “Her medical examination has been conducted and investigations are in progress,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi. In the evening, the police took her to Mcleodganj to identify the place where she was sexually assaulted. Police said the German embassy in New Delhi was informed about the incident.
On January 7, the woman was found lying unconscious at Bagsunag, 2 km from Mcleodganj, the exile home of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. She told doctors at the hospital that she was addicted to psychotropic drugs and fell unconscious from an overdose. “She disclosed that she fell unconscious after taking some pills which contained high psychotropic substance,” said a doctor.
This is second case of a foreigner being raped in the hill state. In June last year, a British teenager teaching children under an education programme was raped by two taxi drivers in Palampur. The accused were arrested soon after the incident.
