The Goa Children's Court on Thursday framed charges against Rohit, son of Goa education minister Atanasio Monserrate, for allegedly raping and sending obscene messages to a 14-year-old German girl last year.
The GCC said there was enough ground hinting at the involvement of Rohit Monserrate in the crime. The police, in its chargesheet filed in January this year, had said that Rohit had raped and sent vulgar messages to the 14-year-old.
He allegedly raped her in his Audi car at the Bambolim plateau near Taleigao, his father's constituency, police said. The defence counsel had argued that barring mere suspicion there was nothing to implicate Rohit in the case.
The case was registered in October last year, by the victim's mother after facing stiff resistance from the Goa police, who drew flak for allegedly not allowing her to file an FIR.
Both the mother and daughter are presently in Germany and are expected to be in Goa in a couple of months.
