Get ready for UP polls: Sonia to Congress
She urged Congress workers to launch a mass contact programme in all the Assembly segments of Rae Bareli.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday urged party workers in Uttar Pradesh to prepare for next year's Assembly elections by making a firm resolve to ensure that their opponents were "wiped out".
"We have to face the challenge of Vidhan Sabha elections and start our preparations," Gandhi told a meeting of party workers of her Lok Sabha constituency at Feroz Gandhi College in Rae Bareli.
"I am sure if you take a resolve, the Congress will be successful not only in Uttar Pradesh but also in the entire country. Whenever the elections will be held, the opponents will be wiped out," Gandhi said.
She urged Congress workers to launch a mass contact programme in all the Assembly segments of Rae Bareli. "You have to contact every voter in the constituency."
"Only that political party which is able to take the voters to the polling booths tastes success in elections, and we have to ensure just that," Gandhi said.
She said that despite "obstacles" created by the Samjawadi Party government in the state, she had taken several steps for the development of Rae Bareli on her own.
Urging party workers to expose the failures of the state government, Gandhi said she was fully committed to the development of the constituency.
Gandhi, who had quit as an MP over the office of profit issue, was last month re-elected to the Lok Sabha from Rae Bareli by a huge margin.
